August Highlights
Baptism of Wesley Thomas Zimmerman
Saturday evening, August 28th we welcomed the Zimmerman family who are members and who chose to present their child for the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. We are pleased that Allyson and Alex Zimmerman brought their son, Wesley Thomas Zimmerman, to be baptized. Wesley Thomas was born on October 30, 2020 in the midst of a crisis, COVID, that I’m sure will be part of the story of his life and his baptism. Praise the Lord things settled enough for the occasion, and we pray that they remain settled despite the renewed concern. Congratulations and may God bless. We receive Wesley Thomas as a fellow member of the body of Christ, child of the same heavenly Father, and a worker with us in the kingdom of God. We extend our love and support to him as he grows in his knowledge and faith in the Word of God. Wesley, Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.
Blessing of the Backpacks
During worship on Saturday and Sunday, August 21 and 22, Pastor Diefenderfer started off the school year with a reading of Dr. Suess’s Oh the Places You Will Go, and a blessing of students’ backpacks including presentation of a tag to remind them of the prayers and blessing. For all students who attended and for those who were not able to attend, we pray:
Dear God, as we get ready to start another year in school, we ask your blessing
on these backpacks, and especially on these children who will wear them.
As they do the very important work of being students, bless them with:
eagerness to learn, that their world may grow large;
respect for teachers and students, that they may form healthy relationships;
love for nature, that they may become caretakers of your creation;
happiness when learning is easy and stick-to-it-iveness when it is hard;
faith in Jesus as their best teacher and closest friend.
We ask that you would protect these, your own children.
Watch over them and keep them safe as they travel to and from school.
As they learn, help them also to discover the different gifts that you have given
each one of them to be used in your work in the world.
As they hear the many voices that will fill their days,
help them to listen most carefully for your voice,
the one that tells them you will love them always, no matter what.
We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen
Special thanks to Kylene Kroh for preparing Backpack Blessing Tags given to all who had their backpacks blessed this weekend.
First Day Fresh Impressions
The First Day Fresh Impressions event held at Trinity on August14th provided back to school clothes for 21 children. Sincere thanks to all for the clothes, book bags and shoes we received. Because of your support we are able to offer free school shopping for the students in our community. Also, special thanks for the Trinity volunteers that provided many hours of sorting, folding and organizing the overflow to host this event. “Shopping” at Trinity brought many big smiles to little faces.
