Pastor's Letter - February
Our Lenten Schedule is going to be quite different this year. In previous years, we had cycled through various congregations throughout our valley. But this year, we will be worshipping with our brothers and sisters in Christ at Friedens Lutheran Church in Hegins and St. James Lutheran Church in Pitman!
Services will alternate between Trinity and Friedens, and members of St. James will be coming over the mountain to join us.
The theme this year will be "Praying through the Psalms". Each week we will look at a different Psalm and talk about what that particular early song was trying to say about our relationship with God.
Did you know that the Psalms in the Old Testament were actually originally meant to be sung? Some congregations sing them using a pretty simple format because of this. Traditionally, we are told that they were written by Biblical David, but most modern scholars think that they were written by multiple authors over a long period of time.
Some Psalms are purely about praising God. Some are about lamenting the current condition that the writer was in. There are even some about the coronation of a king, dealing with royal matters.
So come join us this year as we explore the Psalms together. Think of it this way- every Wednesday in Lent is a sort of mini-reunion of our Reformation 500 service!
The schedule is as follows:
February 14th: Ash Wednesday at Trinity, 7:00 PM
February 21st: 1st Week of Lent at Friedens, 7:00 PM
February 28th: 2nd Week of Lent at Trinity, 7:00 PM
March 7th: 3rd Week of Lent at Friedens, 7:00 PM
March 14th: 4th Week of Lent at Trinity, 7:00 PM
March 21st: 5th Week of Lent at Friedens, 7:00 PM
March 29th: Maundy Thursday at Friedens, 7:00 PM
March 30th: Good Friday Crosswalk, begins at St John’s United Methodist, Hegins, 12 noon
March 30th: Good Friday Community Service at St Andrew’s at 7:00 PM.
Come and join us as we walk the Lenten journey together!
